Ester of the Future —
The summer solstice found you back in your hometown, Houston as we enter into Cancer season.
Going back to Houston has been increasingly complicated since your parents death, followed by the death of your favorite aunts and favorite uncle and most recently your father’s surprise wedding. You have mourned the homecoming you imagined. And now you just focus on the family you are still connected to here. You work on being present and grateful.
You are using the momentum from your short film to finish the feature. You hope to finish in enough time to apply to this fellowship. It reminds you of when you first came to L.A. and were just trying to break in to the industry. Now, the goal is to signal your new path as more than a writer, but as an artist and a world builder.
Outside of your creative cave, the world continues to become a scarier place. You find you are constantly questioning your focus on your art as the world becomes a different place than you were taught it would be. The world is asking you to be a different woman.
Will you answer the call? What will that mean for you?
You are excited and determined to learn more about African astrology and cosmology. This is your new obsession. Closer to your ancestors, closer to the rhythms you were meant to follow.
